This project will unearth archival materials, folklore scholarship, and original art, bringing them together to tell the multifaceted story of the Richmond Vampire legend and the city’s transformation. This work will be collected into a beautifully illustrated compendium of the Legend of the Richmond Vampire.
A Three-Point Perspective
This project will be the most complete collection of known facts, folk embellishment, and artistic interpretation of the Legend of the Richmond Vampire ever assembled.
Historically Rigorous
By partnering with local historians, libraries and museums and by accessing archives dating back to the settlement of Richmond, we will create a rock solid foundation from which to deliver the recorded facts of how the Richmond Vampire became to be.
Traditionally Folkloric
Recorded native traditions, folk embellishments, urban legends and archived stories from the region will build the second layer of the tale, showing how the story became larger than life.
Artistically Interpreted
Richmond-based painters, illustrators, musicians, sculptors, poets, writers and fabric artists will present modern interpretations of the tale, showing the lasting impact the Legend of the Richmond Vampire has had on its fellow citizens.
